Dany Sanz, Founder and former Creative Director of the international brand MAKE UP FOR EVER, is a true mentor in the make-up world. With her humble, non-eccentric attitude, she’s easy to pick out of a crowd with her signature bright red hair. As a child growing up in a Parisian suburb, she was drawn to the world of the arts at a young age. Following her studies at the Ecole des Beaux-arts, she began her professional life as a painter and sculptor. Her work in the theatre planted the seeds for the creative discipline that would be the driving force behind MAKE UP FOR EVER one day. While working on theatre sets one day, she discovered by chance that she could also paint on the actors’ skin; a revelation she coined as her “paintings in motion”. As a result she began teaching the techniques of body painting to other make-up artists, slowly creating a following in the make-up community.

“I dreamt of a place where make-up artists could find everything that they needed for their art as well as a collection of reliable, authentic products with professional performance.”

In the 1980’s there were very few products available to professional make-up artists and those available came in a limited number of shades. Dany therefore decided to create her own products with the help of her students. As more and more make-up artists and students began to request her products, she felt it was time to take things one step further. With the help of her husband, Jacques Waneph, she created MAKE UP FOR EVER in September of 1984 by setting up her workplace and boutique at 5 rue la Boétie in the 8th arrondissement of Paris.

From the start MAKE UP FOR EVER was a team effort with the help of Dany Sanz’s “Tribe” – made up of close friends, family members and students. At the time of its inauguration the MAKE UP FOR EVER Boutique at 5 rue la Boétie was a unique and eclectic place. The boutique was a necessary stop for make-up artists in need of the incredible variety of products, many of which were not available anywhere else: Star Powders, Pure Pigments, Glitters, Lipstick Palettes and the iconic collection of 100 Eye Shadows, all of which were hand-filled in the cellar of the boutique. What followed were years of growth and expansion for the brand as it slowly began appearing in various countries around the world due to the recognition in the professional make-up realm.

Dany Sanz watched her passion grown into a prized company within the prestigious LVMH luxury group in the late 1990s. With the brand’s success, Dany’s dream to create a MAKE UP FOR EVER ACADEMY came true in September of 2002. Dany was able to return to her first love of teaching by transmitting her talent, knowledge and techniques to new generations of make-up artists.

Dany Sanz is a perfectionist, and MAKE UP FOR EVER’s products are a true testament to this. Emma Hack | @emmahackartist

EMMA HACK is an Adelaide, Australia based artist working in the unique medium of body paint installation and photography. Exhibiting extensively throughout Australia since 1999, Emma’s astounding artworks have since captured the attention of collectors and art lovers worldwide.

Emma has received great acclaim for her refined body paint camouflage technique; through a combination of painting on canvas, body painting and studio-based photography, her work evokes a rich array of visual narrative and magical realism.

Best known for her Wallpaper series (2005-2010)- in which she painstakingly camouflaged the human form by hand painting her models into the remarkable designs of the late Florence Broadhurst. Emma Hack’s diverse artwork collections draw inspiration from the unique Australian flora and fauna, as well as Oriental influences.

Emma Hack’s collaboration with Grammy award winning musician Gotye resulted in the iconic, award winning music video for Somebody That I Used to Know, which has been viewed by over 800 million people worldwide, raising her profile in the US, UK and Europe. Emma has since worked on major artistic commissions for Motor Accident Commission, South Australia, where she built a sculpture of 17 bodies, painted as a crashed car, again drawing worldwide attention to her craft. Emma’s commission for WA Ballet utilised the form of 21 Ballet dancers to create their upcoming program imagery. Her 'Madame Hanoi’ portrait is currently the largest body art mural in the world, standing at 8m in height, gracing the walls of Celebrity Chef, Nic Watt’s restaurant of the same name in Adelaide.

Recently, Emma Hack has held successful solo shows at The Cat Street Gallery (Hong Kong) and Savina Museum of Contemporary Art (Seoul, Korea). Emma Hack is represented by galleries throughout Australia, as well as London, New York, Singapore, Taipei and Hong Kong. Her work is held in numerous private and corporate collections globally.

Einat Dan | @einatdanofficial

Einat Dan is one of the leading Make Up Artists & Art Directors of our time. Her career has spanned over two decades and reached almost every continent. Her groundbreaking talent was apparent in her early work starting out in Tel Aviv in Israel leading her to quickly move on to living and working out of cities such as New York, Milan and Berlin.

Her main passion centers in Make Up art and her unique vision has built up a client list that reads like a catalogue of great fashion houses. Her work has been featured on covers of all the great fashion and make up magazines, often with articles dedicated to the interesting life of the artist herself. This dedication to her work transformed her into one of the most booked teachers for master-classes and workshops to professional makeup artists worldwide.

Einat’s passion flows beyond the boundaries of make up into every area that can be touched by her talent. In 2012 she created and launched a successful line of Makeup Brushes called “MIA by Einat Dan”.

John Stapleton | @johntstapleton

He is best known for his bold statement looks that deliver an abundance of theatricality, but Senior Artist John T. Stapleton is no stranger to understated elegance, either. From working with celebrity clients, backstage at fashion weeks and on photo shoots, Stapleton turns his hand to a wide range of looks, sometimes all within the space of a single day. It’s a challenge but well within the capabilities of this adopted Californian.

Stapleton credits his upbringing in Brooklyn with giving him confidence in his convictions. “My mother always told me to keep my wits about me, which made me streetwise,” he explains. These days he has mellowed and enjoys a wide range of opportunities afforded by his career, whose origins were less than conventional.

It was not so much a love of beauty as its polar opposite that first brought about Stapleton’s interest in makeup, as he recalls being obsessed with horror films and Fangoria magazine. “I had a cigar box with products I ordered from the magazine to make scar effects for the horror films I would make with my friends,” he explains. His introduction to the industry could not have been timelier. Shooting onto the scene as a model and working in Los Angeles, Stapleton had an early insight into the role makeup played backstage. He started wearing heavy kohl around his eyes, peaking his interest in makeup and prompting him to apply for a role with M·A·C when his modeling career drew to a close.

The ghoulish theme wasn’t to end there, however. While working with veteran makeup artist Rick Baker on his Halloween collection, Stapleton’s work appeared as part of the The Monster’s Bride campaign in M·A·C stores internationally, launching the young artist onto the international stage. Throughout his career, Stapleton has drawn inspiration from films such as The Stepford Wives, After Hours and Female Trouble. He counts Kelly Osbourne, a fellow goth aficionado and daughter of Ozzy, among his favourite clients.

Yet it’s a surprisingly straightforward beauty regimen that Stapleton’s prescribes. “Drink lots of water,” as he maintains that no amount of makeup can replace vitality. “While I love to create a beautiful mess, my main drive is to help people feel confident and to be creative,” he explains. It’s this attitude that has carried Stapleton through countless fashion weeks internationally, and won him acclaim early on in his career. It also explains why, of all the items in the M·A·C range, he finds himself returning to key staples such as Strobe Cream as he admits, “It makes me look shiny and young.” Lip Conditioner because “cracked lips aren’t cute,” and Prep + Prime Beauty Balm SPF 35 “for the sun protection.”

LaSonya Gunter | @lasoynagunter

Lasonya didn’t initially set out to be a makeup artist. In fact, the makeup department lead on HBO Max’s Legendary discovered her craft while still a singer-songwriter, transfixed by the transformative nature of a well-made-up face.

Honing her talents while working with M.A.C. Cosmetics, Gunter found a bridge between her two passions, becoming Billy Porter’s makeup artist during his Tony Award-winning run in Kinky Boots, and later, part of the Emmy-nominated team on NBC’s Jesus Christ Superstar Live in Concert, where Gunter helped craft the look of Brandon Victor Dixon’s Judas Iscariot.

A favorite of Porter’s, Gunter’s gifted hands are also behind some of the gender-fluid style icon’s most memorable looks, including his appearances at the 2019 Tonys, the Love Ball and his Diana Ross-inspired look for the Season 2 finale of Pose. And who could forget Porter’s show-stopping 2019 Met Gala entrance, carried onto the pink carpet as a gilded Egyptian Sun God?

Moises Ramirez | @moisesartnyc

Moises is a New York City-based painter and make-up artist. He blends painting, photography, make-up artistry, illustration, and drawing to influence each another in his work, thus allowing these art forms to play an integral role in shaping and developing one another within his creative process. Since relocating to New York City 8 years ago , he has conceptualized creative looks for global beauty brands. In his career Moises has participated in a number of editorial shoots for various fashion publications and has worked worked the last 12 seasons of NYFW. Currently, Moises is working as a multimedia artist focusing on a series of art inspired by his work in the beauty industry. Through color and texture, he is exploring the idea of beauty and what we find beautiful today. Moises holds a B.F.A. in Mix Medium/Digital Arts from Arizona State University.

Stephen Dimmick | @dailydimmick

Stephen really has lived two lives; that of an Internationally-acclaimed make-up artist to the stars, and another, as a vulnerable, struggling artist claiming his place in life and earning street cred along the way.

As a celebrated make-up artist, Stephen has had the fortune of working in LA and NY with some of the most esteemed personalities in film and television, such as Cate Blanchett, Toni Collette, Anna Kendrick and the Kardashian’s. Also in high demand in the world of fashion, Stephen’s runway credits include Christian Dior, Valentino, Calvin Klein, Marc Jacobs and more.

Stephen has collaborated with some of the industry’s best photographers: Greg Lotus, Miles Aldridge, Chad Pitman and Josh Olins. His work has appeared in the Italian, Japanese and Australian editions of Vogue, as well as Time, Numero, Interview, Flair and V Man. His editorial in Cosmopolitan magazine will be released this summer.

Life for Stephen wasn’t always fortunate though. From humble beginnings and what some refer to as the tragic makings of an “after-school special” life, he was raised in the small Air force town of Ipswich in Queensland, Australia. Stephen’s first beauty muse was his mother, who graciously “suffered” many hair and makeup looks at the endlessly talented hands of Stephen. Adolescent and teen years proved to be difficult as he struggled to fill his creative outlet and overcome a childhood filled with shame and guilt.

No longer satisfied with the prejudice of small town life at the age of 16, Stephen ventured to Brisbane City where he found other like-minded creatives. Living hand-to-mouth, he painted faces (mostly his own), and did whatever it took to make ends meet. He was in his element with a makeup brush in one hand and a palette of colors in the other. Making a short stop in Sydney, Stephen ultimately landed in the New York City in 1997, with an incomparable ‘schooling’ in street-sense. Once in New York, Stephen found that his undeniable talent helped to esteem the women that were put into his hands. Even with all of the accolades and success he has experienced, Stephen admits that “Nothing fills me with joy more than seeing a woman walk with her head held a little higher because she learnt how to enhance her beauty with just one flick of a brush.”.

That awareness led him to a greater purpose: He could use his talent to help women flourish from the inside-out, to lose their shame and start using their life-stories for the greater good. “True beauty comes from experience,” Stephen offers, “if you aren’t pretty on the inside, it shows; then you are just an ugly person with makeup on.”

Stephen Dimmick is not just a makeup artist turned social entrepreneur. He is an empathetic soul determined to find the good in the world. He is a relationship-builder, a content-king and a community engager. He changes lives and encourages women to live outside of the confines of their realities. Roshar is an international makeup artist based in Los Angeles, with work featured in VOGUE, Harpers BAZAAR, ELLE, GLAMOUR, Marie Claire among many other publications.

Originally from a small Texas town, Roshar left home at 15, and did makeup in trade for rent. He soon developed the skill and unconventional style, that has lead him to where he is today.

Since early childhood Roshar had a fascination with painting and fashion. Immersed in the underground club scene of the late 80s and early 90s, Roshar explored the world of role play and costumes, that further complimented his way of looking at things.

As a platform artist, Roshar has given makeup presentations not only in the US but also in Moscow, Ukraine, Cairo, Rome, Japan, India, Canada, Singapore, Taiwan, and Australia just to name a few.

Known for his work with color and transformation, Roshar’s work has become easily recognizable. Some of his clients include CoverGirl, MAKE UP FOR EVER, NYX Cosmetics, L'Oréal, Wella, and Paul Mitchell.

Ryan Burke | @ryburke

Ryan Burke is the antithesis of ordinary. He is one-of-a-kind; a visual innovator with an artistic aesthetic that defies creative bounds.

Raised in a small town in Virginia, Ryan grew up outside the realms of fashion, makeup, and pop-culture. His talent and unique voice were innate. Having studied computer science in college, Ryan’s love for photography, makeup, and mixed media creation was spawned when he took a class on web design. After college, Ryan moved to Los Angeles where he cultivated his talent by experimenting with makeup and photography on the model that never missed a call time: himself.

Ryan’s body of work plays with expectations. He possesses the unique ability to conceptualize and execute hyper-realized looks unparalleled in the creative sphere. His portraits do not rely on conventional clothing, hair, makeup or accessories. Rather, his aesthetic employs unusual materials and makeup to create otherworldly personas. Timothy Hung | @timothyhungcom

nternational makeup artist/ educator Timothy Hung has worked with industry top names such as Christian Dior, Kat Von D, Shu Uemura, Giorgio Armani, Burberry, Nars, Make Up For Ever and Wet 'n' Wild. The philosophy that makeup and fashion go hand-in-hand transcends through Timothy’s work.

After graduating with first class honors from Istituto Marangoni School of Fashion Design in Italy, Timothy returned to Canada to further his expertise while attending the notable school of Blanche Macdonald. Soon after his graduation Timothy started working on the international runway circuit in Milan with M.A.C. Cosmetics. He has participated in various shows including Roberto Cavalli, Salvatore Ferragamo, Moschino and Dsquared2. Aside from the runway scene Timothy has worked on various music videos and editorial publications, most notably including Fashion, Maxim and Elle Magazine.

Known for his unique esthetics and artistic approach to makeup, Timothy has presented as Keynote Speaker for IMATS (International Makeup Artist Tradeshow) and The Makeup Show. Viktorija Bowers | @viktorijabowers

Viktorija Bowers was born and raised in the sunny Dalmatian Coast of Croatia, where she grew up studying the rituals of beauty in her mother’s hair salon. Those Rituals taught her that personal interaction and the caring touch can do wonders, not just physically but emotionally. She believes that role of the makeup artist is to set the mood for the shoot with easy going personality and nurturing environment for everyone involved.

As well as being a makeup artist, Viktorija uses pencil and paint to express her creative inspirations.

Recently she was commissioned to create 10 ft mural completely out of makeup for French Cosmetic Company “Make Up For Ever”

Viktorija has managed to build an impressive portfolio with clients like Maybelline, Garnier, Olay, Macy’s, Avon, Dove and Neiman Marcus.

She was the part of the makeup team for Dick Page and eventually went on to key her own fashion shows for Elle magazine 360 runway collections, including Bebe, Emu Australia and Marithe Francois Girbaud to name the few. Viktorija thrives and navigates high pressure situations with ease.

She has also appeared on TV as makeup expert on TV shows, as well as various public speaking engagements ranging from Sephora classes to introduction videos for cosmetic companies and magazines like Benefit, Tweezerman, NYC Color Project, The fashion Spot to name the few.

Viktorija has helped develop brushes for the beauty tools company Tweezerman, as well as created the makeup looks for some of the official face charts for the Electric palette by Urban Decay, by fusing makeup with her artwork that’s featured in all their stores across the country.

She was honored by Make Up For Ever, as one of 30 featured artists in the industry. It was a campaign to celebrate their 30th anniversary, celebrated by special edition palette, each color representing the artists. Viktorija’s was gray color named Steel.

Viktorija resides in NYC with her husband and little daughter. She is represented on both coasts and travels internationally as well.
