For the first time ever The Powder Group presents a unique approach to the art of hairstyling – The Styling Sessions. This ground-breaking five day program will provide attendees with perspectives on career and craft from five of the hairstyling industry’s most inspirational and experienced educators including Ruth Roche, Johnny Lavoy Michael Duenas, William Edge and Daven Mayeda.

In this incredible event, each artist spend an entire day with attendees, showcasing the styling skills and techniques that have helped make them some of the most sought after talent in every area of the professional hairstyling industry.
Each day will consist of demonstrations, hands-on workshops and real-life career talk. This is not a program that will simply change the way you do hair, it will change the way you move your career forward and elevate every part of your work.

Only available as a full-week program, and strictly limited to 20 participants, the program will cover a wide variety hair types and textures, and styles using a combination of mannequin heads, models and each-other as models.

Advance understanding of basic styling techniques and the use of styling tools is required for participation. Attendees will provide their own hair kit – tools and products – for their own use during the program. Supplementary products will be available during the program for attendees use based on the specific projects.

Michael Duenas

Founder and CEO of Hair Room Service is a versatile stylist with enthusiasm, insight and creativity. He has traveled and earned industry recognition as an educator and artistic team member for major companies, including Carlton Hair International, Schwarzkopf Professional and Devachan. His love of the craft happened unexpectedly when he was 13 years old and was surfing in California with a few friends who owned a hair salon. He was invited to hang out in their salon. As soon as he was old enough to apprentice his dream began. Passion grew and he eventually became a stylist. When Duenas realized how beautiful and happy his clients were when they left his chair, he knew he’d found his creative outlet, his passion and his future.
Duenas was best able to express his creativity through education. Teaching all over the United States, his passion grew by the day. Through education he found freelance work and was drawn toward editorial work and photo shoots. After realizing his passion was growing for photo work, Duenas took the next step. He packed his bags and moved from California to New York to increase his client base on both coasts.

Daven Mayeda

Daven knew at a very early age that he wanted to be an artist. He spent his childhood exploring ways to be creative which resulted in an interest in drawing, painting, calligraphy, and composing classical music. Daven began as a hairstylist and makeup artist working on the island of Oahu, Hawai'I but eventually he relocated to Los Angeles to pursue his dreams. Once in LA, Daven was hired as an instructor at a Paul Mitchell Partner School, where he taught the basics of hairstyling. Taken under the wing of several top notch New York hairstylists, Daven began to learn the tricks of the trade working with some of the iconic great hairstylists. While teaching, Daven continued to pursue freelance work doing fashion and celebrity editorials, album covers, advertising campaigns and television. To date, he has worked with such noteworthy musicians and celebrities as Adele, Shay Mitchell, NIcki Minaj, Mariah Carey, Henry Rollins. Still based in Los Angeles, Daven travels across the country in his free-time teaching hairstyling workshops to new artists allowing him to meet talent from all walks of life.
